Sitting down to write my final blog entry for the summer is bittersweet. I am excited to return to the University of Arizona and finish my last semester of school, but I am also sad to have had to say “see you later” to all of the wonderful people I have met this summer. My time at Macy’s was an experience I will value for a lifetime and I have met people along the way that I know will be instrumental in my journey through life. I am truly so grateful I had this awesome opportunity! Continue reading

I am a senior at The University of Arizona studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences with a minor in Business Administration. I am also a coordinator for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Peer Mentor program. This summer I am a store management intern with Macy's at the Biltmore Fashion Park in sunny Phoenix. When I'm not at home with my dachshunds, you can find me daydreaming about the beach or waiting in line at the nearest Starbucks for a trenta peach green tea.

One of the highlights of my summer as a Macy’s intern was attending our intern summit in Los Angeles, California last week. Once in California I spent time learning about next steps with Macy’s and getting to know other Store Management Interns. I met interns from California, Arizona and Hawaii. It was so awesome to be able to discuss our experiences and learn more about different Macy’s stores across the U.S. Continue reading

This past week has been a whirlwind of opportunity and great adventure! My sixth week in my internship gave me the chance to attend a Deep Dive at another Macy’s and shadow a District Merchant. As I interacted with these higher-level executives, I wanted to ask them all one question: “What advice do you have for young professionals?” Everyone was eager to share their advice and some even provided the hard lessons they learned along the way as they gave me their answers. Below you will find their responses. Enjoy! Continue reading

Entering week 5 of my internship seems surreal, the time has completely flown by! As I have progressed through this journey over the last few weeks I have become aware of some very important things. I have developed a “morning mantra” of sorts. I like to call it being “FAMEous.” Now, before you think I’m telling you how to become an overnight YouTube sensation, let me explain what I mean. My third week at Macy’s was crazy, but fun! The big focus of the week was merchandising. My fellow intern and I (shown in the accompanying photograph) had the opportunity to shadow the Merchandise Team Manager (MTM) and her team. This was a fun change of pace that provided me with new insight on how merchandise is delivered and arranged in store. Continue reading

As I prepare to tackle my third week at Macy’s, I am realizing just how much the TJLC and RCSC major has set me up for success.  This week I am thankful for all of the opportunities I have been given as an RCSC student; I am so proud to tell everyone I meet that I am a  retail student at the TJLC. So, there are two things I would like to stress to my fellow students: don’t underestimate the value of your education and brand yourself! Terry Lundgren is much more than just the leader of an iconic retail brand like Macy’s.  He is a man with an incredible and genuine passion for the emerging leaders of the retailing industry.  That is not a fact that receives as much recognition but, in my humble opinion, will ultimately be his greatest gift to retailing.
