As my internship winds down to its final stretch I am seeing a date on my calendar grow closer and closer. The date is July 28th, and it’s not only my sister’s birthday but the day I will be presenting the many hours of work and data I have compiled during the time I have been here to my supervisors. I am an eight year veteran of the United States Army. I served my country as a Forward Observer during two tours - in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am a senior at the University of Arizona and will be graduating December 2016 with a B.S. in Retailing and Consumer Sciences. This summer I'm working as a Merchandising/Buying intern at REI's corporate headquarters in Kent, WA.

This past week has been a whirlwind of opportunity and great adventure! My sixth week in my internship gave me the chance to attend a Deep Dive at another Macy’s and shadow a District Merchant. As I interacted with these higher-level executives, I wanted to ask them all one question: “What advice do you have for young professionals?” Everyone was eager to share their advice and some even provided the hard lessons they learned along the way as they gave me their answers. Below you will find their responses. Enjoy! Continue reading

I am a senior at The University of Arizona studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences with a minor in Business Administration. I am also a coordinator for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Peer Mentor program. This summer I am a store management intern with Macy's at the Biltmore Fashion Park in sunny Phoenix. When I'm not at home with my dachshunds, you can find me daydreaming about the beach or waiting in line at the nearest Starbucks for a trenta peach green tea.

When I stepped into the University of Arizona (U of A) I had one goal in mind, find a degree that will teach me skills I can actually use. After spending the last two summers interning at two different companies, I am very happy with my degree choice. Continue reading

What a feeling! I am one of the lucky ones. I feel like there are people that go through their whole life attempting to find what they are passionate about. As a non-traditional student, I was one of them until this summer. Continue reading

With the sporting events taking place in Summer 2016 including the US Open, NBA Finals, Olympic trials, the Euro Championships, Wimbledon and the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games taking place this summer, Nike has launched the concept and product line known as ‘The Summer of Sport’. Not only am I having the incredible opportunity to witness the making and storytelling behind this concept, but as a Nike intern, I have the unique experience of truly living out this idea of the summer of sport. With so many big sporting events taking place in such a short amount of time, Nike is looking to highlight the special moments of each of their professional athletes to help make every moment count and perform at the best of their ability. I'm a senior at the University of Arizona in the Retailing and Consumer Sciences major with a minor in Fashion Retailing. I'm also a full time student athlete competing in the pole vault, a member of the TJLC's Student Advisory Board and a student leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This summer I will be a Merchandising intern for the Jordan brand of Nike in Beaverton, OR. I'm so excited for it!

Entering week 5 of my internship seems surreal, the time has completely flown by! As I have progressed through this journey over the last few weeks I have become aware of some very important things. I have developed a “morning mantra” of sorts. I like to call it being “FAMEous.” Now, before you think I’m telling you how to become an overnight YouTube sensation, let me explain what I mean. When beginning the application processes for internships last fall, one of the thoughts I often pondered with each company I interviewed with was what it would be like living in a different state where I knew virtually no one. Between the five different companies I applied to, all of them were in states far from the two vastly different places I call home in Tucson, AZ and now Raleigh, NC. Even so, for the opportunity to be with the company I dreamed of interning (and hopefully one day working for) since I first took my recruiting visit to the U of A, I knew no matter what happened, it would be well worth it.
