Career Fairs come and go throughout the year but how can one be certain they left a lasting impression with recruiters?  Being a young adult in search of a job or internship is a very exciting time, however it can also be very stressful. In order to make attending a career fair less stressful, it helps to be prepared. At the Emerging Talent Recruitment Conference hosted by the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing, one of the keynote speakers, Rachel Mushahwar of Intel inspired the room of students with her adventurous life story and career advice. One piece of advice that resonated with the room was when she said, “You have to start before you’re ready, because you will never be 100% ready, so why wait?” This statement is absolutely right. In order to be successful you have to take a chance even if you are not 100% ready because you never know what may come of it. The same thing goes for attending a career fair. Committing yourself to attend a career fair is the first leap in the right direction when it comes to finding a job or internship. Continue reading

During my time with Nike this summer, one of my favorite experiences was the opportunity to meet and hear the inspiring journey that each individual took to get to where they are now. There were so many incredible stories that truly inspired me, yet there was one in particular that really stood out. I would like to introduce you to Amy Jo Williamson. Continue reading

While I know I am not able to see your response, in your mind raise your hand if you have ever felt like you were sitting in a class asking yourself why am I here? Why do I have to take this class? Am I ever going to use this in the real life? How does this relate to what I really want to do? Continue reading

Sitting down to write my final blog entry for the summer is bittersweet. I am excited to return to the University of Arizona and finish my last semester of school, but I am also sad to have had to say “see you later” to all of the wonderful people I have met this summer. My time at Macy’s was an experience I will value for a lifetime and I have met people along the way that I know will be instrumental in my journey through life. I am truly so grateful I had this awesome opportunity! Continue reading

I am a senior at The University of Arizona studying Retailing and Consumer Sciences with a minor in Business Administration. I am also a coordinator for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Peer Mentor program. This summer I am a store management intern with Macy’s at the Biltmore Fashion Park in sunny Phoenix. When I’m not at home with my dachshunds, you can find me daydreaming about the beach or waiting in line at the nearest Starbucks for a trenta peach green tea.

One of the highlights of my summer as a Macy’s intern was attending our intern summit in Los Angeles, California last week. Once in California I spent time learning about next steps with Macy’s and getting to know other Store Management Interns. I met interns from California, Arizona and Hawaii. It was so awesome to be able to discuss our experiences and learn more about different Macy’s stores across the U.S. Continue reading

Throughout my life I have had some pretty amazing life experiences. I have played in championship hockey games, seen wildernesses that are remote and untouched, traveled the world, lived abroad, skied the Austrian Alps and dove with manta rays and sharks. An experience I am going to have to add to this list is interning at REI and experiencing all Seattle has to offer. Continue reading

This summer I’m working as a Merchandising/Buying intern at REI’s corporate headquarters in Kent, WA.

For those of you who have been following my journey since the beginning, I wanted to start off by thanking you for coming back week after week. For this week I would like to take a look back to the post I did after my third week here with Nike, in which I spoke about my head first dive into the world of sneaker heads. Continue reading
