During my time with Nike this summer, one of my favorite experiences was the opportunity to meet and hear the inspiring journey that each individual took to get to where they are now. There were so many incredible stories that truly inspired me, yet there was one in particular that really stood out. I would like to introduce you to Amy Jo Williamson. Continue reading

I’m a senior at the University of Arizona in the Retailing and Consumer Sciences major with a minor in Fashion Retailing. I’m also a full time student athlete competing in the pole vault, a member of the TJLC’s Student Advisory Board and a student leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This summer I will be a Merchandising intern for the Jordan brand of Nike in Beaverton, OR. I’m so excited for it!

While I know I am not able to see your response, in your mind raise your hand if you have ever felt like you were sitting in a class asking yourself why am I here? Why do I have to take this class? Am I ever going to use this in the real life? How does this relate to what I really want to do? Continue reading

For those of you who have been following my journey since the beginning, I wanted to start off by thanking you for coming back week after week. For this week I would like to take a look back to the post I did after my third week here with Nike, in which I spoke about my head first dive into the world of sneaker heads. Continue reading

With the sporting events taking place in Summer 2016 including the US Open, NBA Finals, Olympic trials, the Euro Championships, Wimbledon and the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games taking place this summer, Nike has launched the concept and product line known as ‘The Summer of Sport’. Not only am I having the incredible opportunity to witness the making and storytelling behind this concept, but as a Nike intern, I have the unique experience of truly living out this idea of the summer of sport. With so many big sporting events taking place in such a short amount of time, Nike is looking to highlight the special moments of each of their professional athletes to help make every moment count and perform at the best of their ability. When beginning the application processes for internships last fall, one of the thoughts I often pondered with each company I interviewed with was what it would be like living in a different state where I knew virtually no one. Between the five different companies I applied to, all of them were in states far from the two vastly different places I call home in Tucson, AZ and now Raleigh, NC. Even so, for the opportunity to be with the company I dreamed of interning (and hopefully one day working for) since I first took my recruiting visit to the U of A, I knew no matter what happened, it would be well worth it. After attending a diversity workshop with my fellow Nike undergrad and graduate interns, one big take away from the event was the importance of establishing a work life balance. At Nike, not only do they say they value maintaining a life outside of work, they actually encourage and help their employees be able to step away from their job and have some fun. In other words, they put their money where their mouth is. Keeping that in mind, my fourth week at Nike was quite eventful in all the right ways. Continue reading

After hearing the term ‘Sneakerhead’ for years, I always assumed that I had a pretty good understanding of what exactly that meant and who sneakerheads really were.  Yet as I quickly discovered, I had a lot to learn!  My first three weeks of working in the Jordan Brand for Nike has opened my eyes to a whole new world and a completely different kind of consumer.  When I first received news that I would be working with Jordan’s Retro brand footwear with a focus on the North American marketplace for the summer, I was overjoyed.  I could not be more excited! Initially though I had some nerves. As a runner (or in my case, a jumper) I have always had a profound love for shoes.  With that being said, by no means was I deserving of the title, Sneakerhead.
